The switch under each key decides how a mechanical keyboard feels and sounds.

Linear

Smooth from top to bottom with no bump. Popular for gaming.

Tactile

A small bump partway down tells your finger the key has registered. A good all-rounder for typing.

Clicky

A bump plus an audible click. Satisfying for you, loud for everyone around you.

Which to try first

Buy a cheap switch tester with several types before committing to a full board.
